How do you get an entire housing society to segregate its waste? The key lies in understanding what motivates people, what holds them back, and what might move them to act.

Presented by Purpose and Transitions Research at Emergence, this interactive workshop brings The Changemaker’s Playbook, a practical behaviour-change toolkit developed following the Mumbai Sorted pilot, to life. Participants will step into a fictional housing society where waste segregation is failing and work in teams to tackle the challenge. Through distinct resident personas, each representing different motivations, mindsets and barriers, participants will experiment with identifying the right message, messenger and medium to encourage behaviour change.

As the simulation unfolds, participants will discover how the wrong approach can create resistance, undermine trust or fail to address practical barriers. The session offers a hands-on introduction to designing context-specific interventions that move people from awareness to action and enable sustained waste segregation.
