Panaji has set an ambition to become a solar city. But what does becoming a ‘solar city’ actually mean, beyond installing more rooftop solar and increasing renewable energy capacity? This 90-minute panel discussion will explore what it takes for an emerging Indian city to maximise the share of clean power in its energy mix and move towards a 24×7 renewable-powered future. The discussion will examine the roles of different stakeholders, from city officials and utilities to technology providers, industries, and consumers, as well as the financial, institutional, and operational considerations involved in running a city increasingly on renewable power. It will also explore new technologies, innovative business models, demand-side solutions, and financing tools, which can help cities move beyond installed capacity and turn their renewable energy ambitions into reality.
