Wet waste makes up roughly half of what Indian cities discard, and when it rots in landfills, it becomes a major source of methane. Some municipalities have cracked source segregation, decentralised composting, and biomethanation; others still struggle with collection gaps, contractor dependence, and low citizen compliance. Anchored by Transitions Research and supported by the Global Methane Hub, this closed-door workshop brings together municipal commissioners from cities at different points on that curve. Rather than just showcasing best practices, the session will explore what actually made change stick: which policy levers, financing models, enforcement choices, and behavioural shifts moved the needle, and what quietly failed along the way. This session aims to identify transferable strategies, name shared bottlenecks, and build a peer network that outlasts the room.
